The Girl by the Lake

button up: old navy, bustier: forever 21, shorts: thrift store diy, flower crown: me, watch: vintage, shoes: aldo

Blue jeans. White shirt. A combination so perfect that Lana sings about it, and one that wears easily down to the lake for a morning cup of coffee beneath the just risen sun. If only I could take my coffee like that every day!

You'll have to pardon my harsh jump in conversation, but I just finished binge watching the first season of True Detective, and it's all I can really process right now.  Literally, I'm somewhere between freaked out, happy, and teary eyed. Rust and Marty foreverrrrrrrrrrr! Oh, and also sorry for wearing so much denim lately, it's just really what I've been living in! Can you blame me?

Fancy

top: forever 21, shorts: american apparel, shoes: aldo

Well hello Internet, I know it's been almost a week, and I do apologize. I hope you'll accept these pictures of me looking a bit vintage in high waisted shorts, polka-dots, and a fancy satin bow tie as my apology. I'm currently in this rush of work stuff, so I haven't had much time to take pictures. I know these aren't even my best photos, but I have some better ones planned for later this week! Anyways, since these are up we should probably talk about this top. We first met in Forever 21 and have become bff ever since. It's light polka dot fabric already has me wanting to wear it every day, then top that off with a bow tie, and suddenly "I'm so fancyyyy, you already know!". Or well, in my mind anyways.

Field of Flowers

shirt: fabled and true, shorts: me (diy from goodwill), shoes: aldo

It's officially my favorite time of the year. The time of year when wildflowers begin to line the roadsides while sunlight and daisies fill any open field in sight. Unable to resist a beautiful day like this, I was quick to pull on a pair of denim cutoffs, my favorite t-shirt, and a pair of brogues to go find some new flowers to fill my vases, as well as my braid. Wildflowers truly are my favorite accessory.

While this outfit fits in perfectly in a field of flowers, it looks just as lovely worn on city streets. I can't tell you the number of times I've thrown it on for lunch, or out to hear some live music downtown. It's equal parts girly and comfy, how could I not wear it out? Literally.

hello youtube

After taking photos for this post the other day, I decided to do something a little different and try my hand at making a video. I know it's a little jumpy, and awfully short, but I think I'm going to try and make outfit videos to combine with outfit photos when I'm able to. After all, it's actually kinda fun, and I think it's cool to be able to see an outfit come to life. Subscribe to my Youtube channel at www.youtube.com/user/tennesseeroseblog if you want to follow along. And with that, 3...2...1...ACTION!

she takes a dip in my daydream

jacket: forever 21, dress: target (forever ago), heels: vintage

Leather and lace. Even saying the combination it just kind of rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? In the winter, I normally pair this outfit with a chunky gray sweater and nude ballet flats, but for a chilly spring day I thought that might be a bit too warm and opted for the leather. Paired with some vintage satin pink kitten heels (which I really am in love with because of their resemblance to pointe shoes), I think it gives off an old hollywood meets the T Birds vibe. Maybe it's just me?

Also, I promise windows are not my solitary location, they were just the best option at the moment.

Fringe

button up, hat, bustier, boots: forever 21, shorts: tj maxx

*ATTENTION: TO FINISH VIEWING THE PICTURES IN THIS POST YOU MUST FIRST SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM AND PUSH PLAY ON THE SONG* (Well, you don't have to, but it makes them much better)

Oh here we go...the rock 'n roll girl in me has decided to show herself again. (Or Arabella (insert beautiful Arctic
Monkeys guitar here) as I have appropriately named her). It's perfectly normal to name your different style personalities right? I mean, Beyonce is sometimes Sasha Fierce, and the world accepted that pretty well, so I'm just applying the same principal here. Anyways, I'm very in love with these high wasited lacey fringe shorts at the moment. Did you hear me? High waisted lacey fringe shorts, also known as "perfect". So there I was, in the middle of T.J. Maxx, which I rarely visit, but might be switching that up now, anyways, I was standing there flipping through a rack of baby clothes for my roommate's soon to be here child, when I glanced up and my eyes met the white shorts for the very first time. I curiously strutted over, and found they were just my size, which never happens, so naturally I was sure there had to be something wrong. There wasn't. I try them on, send a picture to my friend Andi like "these are cool, right?", which she replied saying they reminded her of Lindsey Troy from Deap Vally, and with that I became the owner of these babies. Well, I mean after a mini dance/head banging session in the dressing room. I'm just kidding, I didn't do that. Maybe just for a moment. Once home, and putting this outfit together for the first time, I felt just as cool, free spirited, and guitar solo breathing as I thought I would. Alrighty, well, several run on sentences later, I'm going to end my ramblings and leave you with an apology for my absence all week. Life has been crazy, crazy. Even my Netflix account has been sending me emails concerned about where I've been. But, I'm happy to say that I'm back now.

May Flowers

top and skirt: charlotte russe, socks: american apparel, shoes: city classified, flower crown: me

April showers brought May flowers, both to gardens, and my wardrobe. As quickly as they've begun popping up along sidewalks and road sides, they've begun appearing in my hair. I made this yellow one up the other day, and I have to say, I think it accents the white and black ensemble well, and gives it an easy yet elegant feel. As, for the red shoes, I haven't wanted to quit dancing since I put them on...

On a different note, doesn't the apartment leasing building look lovely this time of year? (The building itself is a cute old mansion.) I actually live in an apartment off to the side of it, but this day I felt like taking pictures in front of it like I own the place. Hey a girl can dream...

"Spring's last-born darling, clear-eyed, sweet, Pauses a moment, with white twinkling feet, And golden locks in breezy play, Half teasing and half tender, to repeat Her song of 'May.'"
- Susan Coolidge
