Dripping in Gold

Ext. Hilton Head Island - Evening
The sun lowered towards the ground covering her in gold. She wipes a strand of wind blown hair from her face and tastes the salt left on her lips as she whispers a few words about staying in this moment forever.

As they say about all good things, my style stories from the beach have now come to an end. It will be a while before I get to see the ocean again, so I at least have enjoyed reliving pieces of my trip through these portraits. This night, I went full on L.A. Megan Draper with this blue chiffon dress by Dear Creatures that I couldn't stop spinning in and my 5 dolla sunglasses from the local Kroger say whaaaaaaa! Also, it would be a shame not to acknowledge the incredible act of nature that is going on behind me. I always do some editing on the colors in my photos, but I tried to keep it pretty light with these, because that sunset's beauty is au naturel.

When my sister and I were younger, we were only allowed to watch certain shows on Nickelodeon. While most kids my age were keeping up with Spongebob in that under water pineapple thing, I was glued to channel 23, TV Land, where they played all the old shows from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. So, while I don't get any of those Spongebob memes on tumblr, I can quote you lines from The Brady Bunch, Green Acres, I Dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, I Love Lucy, and on and on and on. Looking back, it was probably watching these shows as a little kid that peaked my fascination with everything vintage, because I definitely do remember wishing I owned basically all of Barbara Eden's mini dresses...and I still wish that to this day. Anyways, every summer Natalie and I would get pretty excited because that meant that TV Land would start ,well, rerunning the Gidget reruns. Gidget, was basically the baddest chick in the game to 5th grade me. She surfed all day, met a bunch of "hunky" dudes, and had an incredible closet. While my days of watching her and Moondoggie run around on the beach are over, her adorable style is something I still channel to this day. Just look back at any of the pictures of Sally Fields playing Gidget, or even Sandra Dee in the movie, and you'll see exactly what I mean. The Lighthouse

Ext. Harbor Town - Day
Standing near the edge of the water she watched as the dark clouds began to roll across the sky. Sprinkles of rain lie like freckles on her skin and the ribbon of her hat dances in the wind. She lifts her head up to the top of the tower as the spotlight brushes against her face and illuminates her eyes.

Alright, I'll go ahead and be the one to say what every one is thinking. I am well aware that I am twinning with this lighthouse as far as my tan burn lines go. In some instances it may be difficult to tell where my skin ends and romper begins, and in others all too obvious, but hey, what happens in South Carolina stays in South Carolina. No ruhgrets! (for the record though, I did apply sunscreen and you should too because skin cancer is a scary thing) Something else I'm definitely not regretting is the purchase of this romper. It's easy to be fooled by pictures on the internet, but daaaang girl you look even better in person. It was love at first "add to cart". Oh, look everyone, it's I've been up for way too long and am now making corny jokes Desirae. Then again, who am I kidding, that's also I have gotten plenty of sleep and am just little weird Desirae. I'll chill.

Be prepared to see more of me though, because I've been so angry with myself this week for not doing better about throwing my entire self into the things that I LoVe. I am now on a create bomb content and post as often as freaking possible rampage, and I will not be stopped. I am going to go to bed now, but that's only because I'm a human and it is unfortunately a necessity. Talk REAL soon!

The Awakening

Ext. The Ocean - Day
The X's on her calendar had turned into just that, a symbol of passing time that she wished to either take back or rush forward. Day in. Day out. Sunlight would pour into the world, and the night would pull it away. It was then that she decided to head south for a little while to escape her everyday motions and fill herself with inspiration. The closer she got the less she felt she were driving, and the more she felt that she were being pulled. Parking at the top of the hill she chased the sunrise downwards over the dunes and through the sea oats feeling the cool sand sift beneath her feet. As she neared the foamy ground she looked out and watched the ocean lift up it's arm and reach out to her. Accepting it's powerful hand she was lifted high up over it's head and only lowered to be spun violently, gracefully between waves. Sent left and then right she felt weightless as they continued their pas de deux further and further out into the blue.

After 7 shorts days of living like a mermaid, I have returned from the beach, but not with out several well documented outfits all of which I am super excited to share. I really love having the opportunity to use the ocean as my backdrop, and honestly I didn't even mind the 5:30 AM alarm I set because being up early enough to capture a sunrise like this one is 100% worth it. So worth it, that "frankly my dear," I didn't even give a damn how silly I looked flailing around in front of my tripod to the people getting in their early morning walk on the beach. So, for this first style story I was really inspired by one of the books that I read while laying in the sun perfecting the art of doing nooooooothing. If you follow me on instagram (@tennesseeroseblog) you already know that I read The Waves by Virginia Woolf, but half way through that one I remembered a short story I had read back in high school called The Awakening by Kate Chopin, and found myself Googling the full text online. Turns out, it's just as good the second time as the first. I already knew that my pink chiffon dress and Aniceta swim suit would look good against the sand and the waves, but photographed with the character, Edna Pontellier in mind, I think they look even better!
