Fairy

leotard: Motionwear, skirt: american apparel, socks: urban outfitters, boots: forever 21, flower crown: me

I must admit I feel like a bit of a woodland fairy in this outfit, which of course is a wonderful feeling to me. I love the thought of being lost in the woods, soaking up the sunshine, and dreaming beneath the shade of the forest trees. Today, this daydream was encouraged by sounds of Of Monsters and Men echoing through my apartment. Every time I hear Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir's voice I become more and more convinced that she may truly be a woodland fairy, especially in the song I've posted below, King and Lionheart. Tell me, if you don't feel as though you're running free through a maze of trees, splashing through cold clear rivers decorated with mossy rocks, or standing at the top of a mountain with your head thrown backwards and outstretching your arms soaking in the sun, but even more so freedom.

Now, to the outfit. Here I am turning dance wear into ready to wear, one of my most favorite styling habits. I honestly feel the most beautiful when I am in ballet class, and I have to say, I find leotards extremely comfortable. This one if my favorite though, because of the cute strappy design on the back. It pairs quite well with the flower crown and American Apparel chiffon skirt don't you think? Of course, it is a little chilly outside today, so when I left the house I added this leather jacket, and the boots worn in the first picture.

Sunny Saturday

sweater: target, shorts: american apparel, tights and hairbow: forever 21, shoes: old navy

Like everyone else, I love me a good sunny Saturday. Especially, when it's filled with Mexican food and white chocolate mocha. High waisted shorts and a simple sweater, t-shirt, button up, etc. is my go to outfit for a lunch/coffee outing no matter what time of year it is. Now, I'm back home trying to resist watching House of Cards. Pace yourself, Desirae, pace yourself. I have a new 1 episode a week rule that I'm trying to follow so I don't watch them all right away and then get that weird "what am I supposed to watch now?!?!?!" feeling. But really, I need to know what the rest of evil mastermind Kevin Spacey's plan contains, and who will have to feel his wrath next....

Denim and Dots

button up and tights: forever 21, shorts: made by me, shoes: old navy

It's sunny outside and I feel so much more alive! I have no idea where the warm weather came from (especially considering not even a week ago there was 9 inches of snow on the ground), but I do hope it's here to stay! Cloudy winter days can be pretty, and the beauty of the mountains when the leaves change can really leave you breathless, but still, I live for summer.Which, is probably exactly why I ended up in a tied up denim shirt, polka dot shorts, and a red lip. As soon as I realized how warm it was outside my thoughts started drifting to bright red ragtops, milkshakes, and juke boxes filled with invitations to dance. Considering it is only February though, I should probably not get too carried away with thinking this weather is permanent. Resist packing up your sweaters, Desirae, resist!

little miss brooklyn

high rise skinny jeans: gap, shoes: converse, flower crown: me

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to my latest blog post. You could've been anywhere in the world, but you're right here with me. I appreciate that. (Imagine that sounding just like this rather than my usual southern draw). This morning began with a cup of coffee and a head full of daydreams back to my trip to New York last summer. I so vividly remember the rush of excitment I felt stepping off the plane, sliding into the backseat of a taxi, and watching the city blur through my window as it took me to the hotel. In moments, I fell in love with New York. From the busy summer sidewalks, to the gritty subway, and lights that sparkled so unintentionally beautiful at night. I remember thinking "this must be the most hopeful place I have ever been." Everywhere, it seems is filled with opportunity, and each street holds a different adventure. You can be anyone you want to be, and make anything happen. It's definitely the kind of feeling that gets in your blood and leaves you longing to return. On some days that I'm unable to bring my head down from the New York City cloud, I like to spin the The Blueprint, and let Jay Z take me back to the way I felt walking up the subway stairs and onto the streets of Brooklyn. (Not to mention I just really admire Jay Z, his journey, and the ambitious spirit that has gotten him where he is today.) I'm always taking outfit inspiration from the music I'm listening to, or the movies I've seen, and today is no exception. Standing in between my open closet doors while running my hands over the hangers and singing "ain't no loooooove in the heart of the city" eventually led to a black and white striped shirt, dark high waisted skinny jeans, red converse, and a flower crown (of course). In reality, I may be walking the streets of Chattanooga, but in my head I'm in Brooklyn, baby.

Pink Velvet

dress: free people, socks: urban outfitters, boots and hat: forever 21

Oh blog, it has been a while. I apologize, I really do. I've been super caught up in completing my first collection, and still working to pay the bills, that I've neglected you. Forgive me?

But honestly, what better post to come back with than one featuring this beyond awesome Free People dress. I'm not even going to pretend that I'm not obsessed with the dusty pink lace and velvet that this dress has goin' on. Not to mention the number of ways that I have already managed to wear it during the short time I've owned it. Once with black tights and a white flower crown for prettiness. Again with my leather jacket, because what is more rock n' roll than velvet and leather?! I guess big hair and face paint are arguably good rivals, but I can assure you that's not really a good look for anybody. Except KISS, but only KISS. We're off track...anyways, I'm loving this dress with knee socks, ankle boots, and floppy hat combo as well. Now, since Chattanooga is actually experiencing a snow day, I'm going to take the rest of this evening to sip coffee, feed my Netflix addiction, and get some sleep since I've only gotten 4 hours collectively since Sunday (sooooo tiredddddd). Alrighty, night y'all!
