Int. Bedroom - Day
From the floor of her pink, typical teenage, bedroom she flips through pages of her new Elvis book until she drifts away in daydreams of meeting him.
So, clearlyyyyy I have spent quite a bit of time wondering what my life might've been like if I had lived during the 50's or 60's. Would I have danced in my living room to American Bandstand? Spent my free time writing stories on a typewriter? Hoped for a date to the drive-in on Friday night? Probs, but one thing I know for certain, is that I would've made sure that I went to see Elvis liiiive and in person. As much as I like him now, I can only imagine how intensified that feeling would be by being lucky enough to live in the same time period as him. Alas, I wasn't, so photos, movies, and records - of course - are about as close as I'll get to that experience. That's why I pretty much jump at every chance I get to live viewings of golden age movies, or books that help take me back, like this one, Elvis Style: From Zoot Suits to Jumpsuits by Zoey Goto. As you can see through some of these photos, this gem is filled with information from every aspect of Elvis's life and the emphasis he had on society. I mean, the man singlehandedly changed the way the world dressed. From his Rockabilly street style to his flashy jumpsuits - it seems Elvis's fingerprints can be found on nearly every trend from those days. It doesn't stop there though, Elvis Style: From Zoot Suits to Jumpsuits depicts The King's influence on contemporary art, his stunning collection of cars, and even added a tour of the Elvis Hidden Hideaway in Palm Springs to my bucket list. If we're getting technical, it actually features over 175 photos, many of which show rarely seen before Elvis-worn outfits.
Due to the fact that I live in a studio apartment, I've turned my coffee table into a fireplace mantle of sorts where I keep my favorite books and magazines proudly on display. It's surely no surprise that this book has officially secured it's own little place there amongst my favorite French Vogue issue, Taylor Swift's Vanity Fair cover, and Matt Zoller Seitz'z Mad Men Carousel. Now idk what that means to you, but to me that screams this book is the actual bomb. Lucky for you July 31st will be here in just a matter of days and you'll be able to get one for your very own coffee table, to sit next to your very own Lana del Rey Maxim magazine, or maybe you're super fancy and have an actual mantle and can place this baby where it truly deserves to be. In all seriousness, visit http://elvisstylebook.com now to secure your copy before pre-orders end on July 31st.
